Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Apply self-rescue
   • Potential hazards when operating in moving water are identified and control measures are implemented
   • Correct body position and techniques to survive and to minimise injury are adopted
   • Opportunities and activities where others may be trying to assist with self-rescue are identified
   • Communication is undertaken with others on the bank edge or vessel to assist with self-rescue
2. Prepare for operations in or around flood and fastmoving water
   • Appropriate personal protective clothing and equipment is selected and used
3. Safe and efficient operational activities are ensured by working and communicating with others through team work
4. Hazards associated with operations are identified and risk assessment is undertaken
5. Contribute to safe rescue operations in and around flood and fast moving water
   • Safe and stable platforms are identified and used to commence rescue activities, in accordance with organisational procedures
6. Appropriate techniques for safe operations from land, vessel and/or water are used, in accordance with organisational procedures
7. Safety of self and others when undertaking rescue operations is monitored
8. Communication with others is undertaken to assist with rescue operations
   • Potential hazards when operating in moving water are identified and control measures are implemented
9. Correct body position and techniques to survive and to minimise injury are adopted
10. Opportunities and activities where others may be trying to assist with self-rescue are identified
11. Communication is undertaken with others on the bank edge or vessel to assist with self-rescue
12. Perform safe self-landing techniques
    • Appropriate landing techniques to safely exit water are applied
13. After consideration of physical ability, type of craft and situational variances, method of landing is selected
14. Safety of others when landing and/or re-entry to a vessel is ensured
